For some people the hundred degree weather, the 100 SPF sun block, the sound of the lawn mower and the smell of cut grass - these are signs that Summer is really here. For me, however, the true sign of Summer is the June compliance month-end rush!
This has been an especially busy June as we are in an "even-year boom". In even years, 2/3 of Illinois attorneys are ending their compliance period (about 49,230 vs. 24,250), and 2/3 of New York attorneys are ending their compliance period (approximately 100,860 vs. 49,700). This means a significant increase in the number of attorneys reporting in these two states alone!
Customer service inquiries, applications generated, attendance reported, interactions with regulators and their staff - all increased dramatically for us year over year. The last week of June, in particular, saw a flood of emails, calls, and reams of paper moving through our offices.
While we got through the "worst of it" - I'm certainly looking forward to a bit of ramp-down, where the new signs of summer are the whopper I caught at the lake (28" Northern Pike),
and my dog, Gingersnap, with her nose pressed up against the air conditioner to keep herself cool.
